Description/Purpose:
2nd Graders in 2D Cohort A just finished a "Winter Landscape" project. We explored tools & materials in new ways. The sky is made with watercolor & salt. Students mixed a "sky color" after reading the book, Sky Color by Peter Reynolds. Then we made birch trees by stamping black/brown paint with cardboard. These were collaged onto the watercolor sky. Finally we discussed shadows and practiced mixing a shadow color! I hope you see the experimentation and variety of tools used in these final masterpieces. |
First Grade "Ish" 12.1.2020
Inspiration: Ish by Peter Reynolds Description/Purpose: In this unit we use the book Ish, by Peter Reynolds to encourage artistic voice within drawing and painting. After thinking and brainstorming about what it means to make an “Ish” drawing, students began to understand that Ish drawings are more than just “getting it right”. Ish drawings have important features of what is being drawn, but also have the artist's style, personal voice, and expression. Just like the main character Raymond says, “Thinking Ishly allowed ideas to flow freely”. Artists in first grade are allowing their ideas to flow freely, while capturing their own artistic voice and style. |
