Wow! The weather is getting warmer and it starting to feel more like summer. Although we are in week 10 of distance learning it seems like the end is near and school will be coming to an end soon. June is right around the corner!
I hope everyone was able to spend some time outdoors and have a peaceful Memorial Day weekend. Here are some updates to distance learning: G. K-2 Students are working on a "Cereal box Collage". G. 3 Students are tasked with making a "Creative comic" G. 4-5 Students can choose between "Creative Comics" or "Drawing Challenge: What Is In Your Brain? Posted above is a beautiful example of the drawing challenge submitted by Molly in 5th grade. G. 6-8 Students are working on an "Shoe Observation" OR "Drawing Challenge: What Is In Your Brain?" Also posted above is an example of the shoe observation, created digitally by Gianna in Grade 6. Hello Everyone, Happy Monday! This month has seemingly gone by both fast & slow. I can't believe it is already May 18th. I miss seeing all my students at school but continue to be impressed by all the hard work I see going on at home and shared with me. This past weekend I enjoyed the sunshine on Saturday (below is a photo of my dog - Chance) and got caught up on some yard and house work. A new week of distance learning means some new Art Challenges! K-2 Tops & Bottoms. This is inspired by the former caldecott winning book "Tops & Bottoms". Use your imagination to create a drawing that shows something "Above AND below" a horizon line. 3-5 Animal Lettering OR Art in Real Life Art in real life originated from J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. It has become quite popular on social media. Find more directions in the 3-5 tab on my website or take a look at this article, Getty Challenge. Animal lettering is a quick fun challenge that asks you to create letters that have animal characteristics. You can try using the letters of you name or letters that spell out a different word or quote. 6-8 Surrealism Art Challenge OR Art in Real Life Middle school students may also participate in the Getty Challenge or try creating an artwork inspired by Surrealism. More directions are located in the 6-8 tab. Take care and have a great week. -Ms. Black My dog Chance enjoying some sunshine this past weekend!
This week student's are exploring the theme of Humor. Using humor in your artwork can be silly or serious. It can be a way to bring awareness to an issue that is important to you or a way to "make light" of the current situation. Take a look at the slideshow I posted below and think about the way that each of the three artists used humor in their artwork.
Here is an example from Sterling in 7th grade!
Student in K-5 are working on a Shadow Art Challenge and a Found Object Printing lesson. Take a look at both and decide what inspires you this week.
