Hi Pierce Families, Students in K-8 have a variety of art challenges/assignments this week to keep creativity flowing and stay connected to the Pierce community. In K-2, students are working on a "Spreading Rainbows Art" challenge. This art challenge asks students to create a public artwork inspired by rainbows, that can be shared within their community. Remember there are many ways to approach this! This could be a painting, a collage, a found object sculpture or done on the computer. If you can- add an uplifting and/or positive message to your rainbow. Classes 3-5 are thinking about Earth Day as inspiration for an Earth Day Art Challenge. Wednesday April 22nd is Earth day. Earth day is a time that we can celebrate our environment and reflect on how to keep it sustainable and safe. For this week, focus on the Earth Day Art Challenge as a way to share personal artwork that communicates a message. Please take a look at the directions, find your materials and make your artwork inspired by Earth Day. Below I posted a great example done by Ben in fourth grade. Classes 6-8 have choices. They may work on the View From My Window art challenge or Earth Day Art challenge. The View From My Window project is inspired by this New York Times article: NYTimes Article. In this project, create an artwork inspired by the view from your window. Remember to consider the perspective, mood and emotion you want to include in your art. If you are working on the Earth Day Art think about the message you want to convey and pay special attention to the materials you choose. I look forward to seeing artwork from all grade levels. It really makes my day! You can always e-mail me at [email protected] to share artwork, ask questions or voice concerns. I miss you all- and hope everyone has a great week. Ms. Black Earth Day Art, Ben 4th grade

GRADES 1-3 (Week of April 13-17) Norman Rockwell: Everyday Life This week in grades 1-3 we are learning about the artist Norman Rockwell and making artwork about our everyday life. He was an American Painter and Illustrator that captured scenes from his everyday life. He would paint pictures of his neighbors and his family, he also illustrated many famous books and painted portraits for presidents. His work captured important moments in American history like the first car and airplane or flight into space. Right now is a big moment in history that artists are capturing. How can you document what is happening in your life? How is your life different now than it was in February? Decide what materials you would like to use and make an artwork that shows a scene from your everyday life. This could be a sculpture, a drawing, or a painting! Any materials that you have at home will work. As always if you would like to work on a previous weekly art assignment you may! These art assignments can be done in whatever order makes sense for you. Take Care, Ms.Black Hi Pierce Students! Great job this week submitting artwork and continuing to explore your creativity (even through social distancing!). This week on my blog I am going to talk about the "Favorite Thing Collage". This art assignment is posted in sections (6-8), but can really be done at all grade levels. Take a look at the photos posted above- I suggest starting with a quick sketch, making a background and then layering on medium and small details. This is how I approach/ and often teach collage techniques but remember there are many different ways to make and think about art. You can have a different approach! In my video I talk about the inspiration for my Favorite Thing Collage as well as some helpful tips and tricks. I show you how to make painted paper (a Pierce art room staple!), use found cardboard and rip and tear paper for interesting textures. Give some of these techniques a try and have fun with your collage this week! As always don't forget to share you artwork with your family, your teachers and anyone else you would like. It is important to share you artwork so you can get feedback, reflect and stay connected! Have a great week :) Ms. Black Hi Pierce Students! In this week's weekly art assignments I will be talking about the Toliet Paper Roll Character Design Lesson Plan posted under sections (k-2) and (3-5). We have been using a lot of found objects around the house for our artwork- this week is no different. Thin cardboard, computer paper, fabric, string/yarn are all great materials to design your character. Take a look at my video (my first video- I will try to get better! :) to see some paper sculpture techniques that you might find helpful. As always.. have fun with it! Give your character an expression, a mood, maybe even a hobby! And share your artwork with your family, classmates and teachers. |
