Julian, "Stay Strong" 7th GradeHello Pierce Families & Students, As we approach another week of distance learning, here are some new Art Challenges: Grades K-2 Recycled Toy Sculpture Challenge & Motivational Art for Boston Hospitals Students in grades K-2 are working on a Recycled Toy Sculpture challenge. Here are some questions to think about during the process: What materials will you use? Can you make your toy strong? Is it interactive? Who might enjoy this toy sculpture? How can you add color? An optional extension to this project is to draw an imaginary toy shelf. Think about how the toys you choose tell us about YOU. Students in K-2 can also take part in the (k-8) Motivational Art for Boston Hospitals. Many of these art lessons are designed to work with multiple grade levels and are centered around big ideas. The big idea behind the Motivational Art is that artists can provide motivation, inspiration and comfort through challenging times. Motivational Art can be shared in this google folder or e-mailed directly to me. Grades 3-8 MassArt Chicken Challenge & Motivational Art for Boston Hospitals This week for grades 3-8 I have planned two art challenges. One is a sculpture and one is a drawing. You may pick one or if you are feeling extra inspired you could complete them both! Remember if you are still working on a previous art assignment- that is ok too! The goal is to work on your artwork for at least 20 minutes a week. I know some of these assignments will take longer than that. Sculpture- MassArt Chicken Challenge: Turn everyday objects and materials into a chicken! This began as a challenge for college level art students stuck at home- let’s see what you can do! Click here to listen to article about this project. Drawing- Motivational Art for Boston Hospitals! Doctors at the Hope convention center are looking for artwork to brighten up the space for patients and for themselves. Do you have an inspiring message/picture to share? A big thank you to Julian (7th grade), for this inspiring artwork posted up above. It is a great example of the Motivational Art for Boston Hospitals posted this week. As Governor Baker announced that we would not be returning to our school buildings this year I would like to share some thoughts! This news is not surprising - but hard to hear. With this in mind, I am reflecting a lot about how to best connect with students through many different forms of media. I have been joining in on classroom meetings K-2 and beginning some live google meets with students 3-8. As this process unfolds look for a letter home from me regarding new outreach to students. Finally, I am so thankful to all the incredible parents and caregivers in our community who are continuing to support students through this very challenging period. The learning & connecting would not be possible without your continued support. Please know that all your efforts in this process are greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Ms. Black
